Shadow Gnomes was inspired by the writings of Myron Kreuger. It is an interactive installation that uses shadow tracking and original animations and sounds to give participants the feeling that small fantastical creatures are licking their shadows. Participants have a sense of control over the creatures as if they were touching them. As a collaborative project between a scientist and an artist, Shadow Gnomes was very successful. The installation was presented twice, once at a campus-wide public event and once at a citywide tri-annual art, multi-media, and music event called Flux Pittsburgh.
