Alphabet Soup, 2006, Multimodal Environment

Alphabet Soup, 2006, Sarah Hatton, Melissa McGurgan and XJ Wong, multimodal environment developed for the SMALLab
Alphabet Soup is a multimodal environment built for the SMALLab that creates a an environment of floating Phonic blends and uses them as a music making or learning tool. Various blends, such as “th”, “iss” and “oo”, are vocalized and assigned to the textual representation. A giant virtual ball can be moved around and scaled using the glowball. When the virtual ball collides with one of the floating blends, their sound is played, and thus participants can mix and match and make words and sound poems.
